“Anti-rights actors are actively working to roll back our achievements, leveraging disinformation and hateful propaganda. This is happening here in Aotearoa…we must rise up, resist, and stand together against these tides of intolerance.”
These words from our patron, Louisa Wall, rang true when she shared them last November. They echo even louder in the wake of the weekend’s events, where we witnessed alarming acts of violence and intimidation targeting the Rainbow community. These are not isolated incidents but part of a growing pattern of hate, both here in Aotearoa and globally.
Toitū Takatāpui | Rainbow Tick unequivocally condemns these attacks. Everyone deserves to feel safe – at work, in community spaces like libraries, and especially at Pride events.
As these threats escalate, so too must our collective pride, resilience, and refusal to be silenced. Hate directed at our communities is not just a headline – it affects real people. A simple act of manaaki, checking in, listening, offering support, can make a difference. Let kindness guide your actions.
These events are a stark reminder of why our collective mahi matters. To everyone standing with us against this hate – thank you. Pride is not just a celebration; it is a commitment to visibility, solidarity, and resistance. We will not be intimidated. We will stand strong, together.
